This project is for personal use only.
For the purposes of my review, I’m going to summarize the basic steps, tell you what I did differently (if anything) and share my general thoughts about sewing the project.
Introduction
Neck pillows come in a variety of styles with different shapes meant for different uses. I decided to try this neck pillow because reading in bed causes me some neck stiffness. The HelloSewing dog bone neck pillow is designed for reading and is 14 1/2″ x 7″ x 7″ (37cm x 18cm x 18cm).
Step 0 Gather Materials
Tightly woven 100% cotton and polyester fill are recommended. I used a pattered cotton that I bought from a recycling centre and the leftover polyester fill from my t-shirt quilt project. I also used two lengths of polyester ribbon for the optional handles.

Step 1 Sew
I followed the instructions for sewing the three seams. Some of my fabric got caught in my third seam. I didn’t position my the ends of my handles correctly and had to rib the seams a little. Do read all the instructions before you being; your handles need to be pinned in place before you sew the first seam.

Step 2 Fill
I used my pinking shears to trim the seam allowance along the curves.

I pressed my pillow before filling it. My quilt batting was in long thin pieces so I cut it into smaller pieces. My largest pieces were ~8” square and the smallest were ~3” by 6”.
Step 3 Close Gap
I used the ladder stitch to close the turning gap by hand.
Here are some photos of my dog bone pillow.

Conclusion
This dog bone neck pillow is a quick and easy beginner project. The video and well written description made it easy to follow along. Beginner sewers will appreciate the gentle curves and small number of seams.
My dog bone neck pillow is 14 1/2″ x 7″ x 7″ (37cm x 18cm x 18cm). I’m really pleased with how it turned out. My neck is more comfortable when I use then when I don’t. I think it would be great for travel. This project would make a great gift.
