This project is for personal use only.

For the purposes of my review, I’m going to summarize the basic steps, tell you what I did differently (if anything) and share my general thoughts about sewing the project.

Introduction

Zipper pouches come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are a good way for beginner sewers to learn or practice new skills. The Sew Simple Bags Elmore Zipper Pouch is an easy beginner project designed to teach beginners how to sew a zipper, sew a zipper end and use basting tape. This sewing project uses one zipper to create a zipper pouch with three pockets. The finished pouch is approximately 7.5 inches wide by 5 inches tall by ½ inch deep (19.0 cm x 12.7 cm x 1.3 cm).

Step 0 Gather Materials

Quilting weight cotton with non-directional prints or solid colours are recommended. More experienced sewers may use slippery fabrics such as silk or satin, home decore fabrics, or vinyl. A zipper and some interfacing are also required. Basting tape is optional. I used some slippery home decore fabric and quilting weight cotton. I didn’t have basting tape.

Step 1 Sew Panels

I sewed the main panels according to the instructions. I used my plinking shears to clip the corners.

Step 2 Zipper

I used my narrow zipper foot to sew on my zipper.

Step 3 Third Pocket

My chalk marker came in handy for making temporary lines and I followed the instructions for sewing the third pocket..

I turned my zipper pouch inside out and discovered that it was too long and narrow.

My zipper was sewn onto the wrong sides of my panels so I had to rip the seams for my third pocket, rip my zipper and resew these steps.

Step 4 Side Seams

I sewed my side seams according to the instructions.

Conclusion

The Sew Simple Bags Elmore Zipper Pouch is an amazing zipper pouch. I had fun sewing it. Beginners sewers will appreciate the numerous photographs and detailed steps. It should be easy to learn how to sew a zipper, sew a zipper end and use basting tape. The seam allowance was clearly stated at the beginning of the instructions. My Elmore Zipper Pouch is 7.5 inches wide by 5.3 inches tall by ½ inch deep (19 cm x 13.9 cm x 1.3 cm). This slight difference to the estimated project size is negligible and is likely due to using a letter-sized template instead of an A4-sized one.

My Elmore Zipper Pouch holds my smartphone, identification, credit/debit card and keys. Store other small items such as toiletries, cosmetics, non-medical masks, hand sanitizer in it. There are also a variety of at-home uses for this practical zipper pouch.

This project is a great way to use up fat quarters and scraps. It would also make a great gift.
